She is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. She served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps before transitioning to civil life.
She has done her post graduation from Army ( Research and Referral) Hospital, Delhi
In the civil side, she has worked at several well-known ophthalmic institutions. Her longest tenure of 8 years was at ICARE hospital Noida where she was in charge of the oculoplasty department. She has also taught students and trained ophthalmologists in phacoemulsification surgery. She has publications in Indian & foreign journals and has presented at various conferences.
Since 2008, she has been practising at Dwarka, at her own eye centre and also as a visiting consultant with several Dwarka hospitals.
Dr Mehta also heads a charitable Trust, Sagar Trust, which looks after underprivileged patients.
A keen champion of gender equality, she is affiliated with several women’s empowerment groups and writes on social issues for the national dailies.
